Carbon4Minerals at the 2026 RMIS Science-for-Policy Forum

Carbon4Minerals was represented at the 2026 RMIS Science-for-Policy Forum, held on 30 September–1 October 2026 in Brussels. Joren van Stee from VITO presented the project through a poster titled “Transforming CO₂ into added-value construction products.”

The Forum brought together representatives from European Commission services, EU-funded projects, industry, academia and other stakeholders. The poster highlighted how Carbon4Minerals aims to utilise CO₂ from industrial flue gases in the production of low-carbon building material intermediates and construction products, while further reducing emissions through the replacement of CO₂-intensive Portland clinker and the use of mineral waste streams as secondary raw materials.

Hosted by the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA) and the Joint Research Centre (JRC), the Science-for-Policy Forum focused on “Leveraging Raw Materials to Strengthen EU Sustainable Competitiveness & Business Opportunities.” Discussions explored how raw-materials knowledge and EU-funded research can support competitiveness, sustainability, circularity and strategic autonomy, while strengthening connections between research, policy and industry. More than 12 EU-funded projects and representatives from seven European Commission Directorates-General contributed to the exchange.

Participation in the Forum provided an opportunity to present Carbon4Minerals research in a science-for-policy setting and contribute to the wider exchange on how EU-funded projects can share and scale up results through the Raw Materials Information System (RMIS).
