Carbon4Minerals pilots featured in the Project Repository Journal

Carbon4Minerals has been featured in the latest edition of the Project Repository Journal, showcasing how the project is bringing CO₂ mineralisation technologies from research into real industrial environments.

The article, “From industrial CO₂ to low-carbon construction materials: Carbon4Minerals pilots in action,” presents two of the project’s industrial pilots demonstrating different pathways for transforming industrial CO₂ and secondary mineral resources into low-carbon construction materials.

At the Górażdże cement plant in Poland, Carbon4Minerals is demonstrating enforced carbonation using raw cement kiln flue gases and recycled concrete powder from construction and demolition waste. The resulting carbonated recycled concrete powder (cRCP) is being developed as a supplementary cementitious material that can partially replace Portland clinker.

At Vandersanden’s Lanklaar site in Belgium, the project demonstrates a different application of CO₂ mineralisation: the production of CO₂-negative facing bricks. The process uses up to 80% steelmaking by-products and binds CO₂ into stable carbonates during curing.

Together, the pilots demonstrate how Carbon4Minerals solutions can connect CO₂ utilisation, circular use of industrial and construction residues, and low-carbon material production under real industrial conditions, providing important evidence for future replication, upscaling and market uptake.
